Successful law firm with 500 attorneys based in principal financial centers in the US, Europe and Asia is looking for a Writer / Editor to work in their New York office. The Writer / Editor will serve as the primary reporter for, and will have responsibility for copy development, editing and publishing related to, the Firm’s daily e-newsletter. The Writer / Editor will also create and post copy on the Firm’s website, contribute to the drafting and editing of directory submissions and award nominations, and assist with other writing assignments as assigned. The Writer / Editor reports to the Director of Media and Communications and works closely with all members of the Marketing Department. Interacts frequently with legal and non-legal personnel, across offices.
Responsibilities for Writer/Editor:
- Serve as the principal reporter for the daily e-newsletter which is the primary internal communications vehicle for the firm.
- Assist in the drafting and editing of content for the firm’s intranet, which is currently being developed.
- Assist in the writing and development of practice-specific directory submissions for publications such as Chambers, Legal 500 and Benchmark Litigation.
- Assist in the gathering and dissemination of information requested by other rankings and directories such as Best Lawyers and SuperLawyers.
- Assist with the writing of award submissions and nominations across practice areas.
- Assist with other writing and editing projects as assigned.
- Assist with copy development and posting of content on the Firm’s web site media center as well as other areas, as assigned.
- Participate in the creative development of new materials, outlets and programs.
Requirements:
- * At least 5 years of relevant journalism, Public Relations or Marketing Communications experience in a professional services or agency environment.
- * Outstanding writing and editing skills; reporter’s curiosity; baseline knowledge of business and legal issues; strong communication skills; ability to work well in a team environment consisting of attorneys, other professionals and administrative support; ability to act in a professional manner at all times; ability to act with a high degree of integrity and maintain confidentiality; ability to handle and prioritize multiple assignments; ability to work under pressure with interruptions and tight deadlines.
- * Proficiency with various software programs such as Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and use of the Internet.
- Prior law firm experience or experience writing in areas connected to the business of the Firm is desirable.
- Undergraduate degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations or Marketing preferred.
